Davy began piping in Lochaber at the age of 8, with his first tutor being Pipe Major Evan MacRae, who was the schools tutor for the area.
He joined the Lochaber Junior Pipe band which was set up by Pipe Major MacRae and Pipe Major Alex MacDonald who was the station Master at Fort William. Both had an excellent and well deserved reputation for teaching and developing many young pipers and left a lasting legacy with a schools band which continues to this day.
On leaving college in Inverness Davy joined the Lothian and Borders police. He subsequently joined their world famous Pipe band under the leadership of Pipe Major Colin Forbes.
At this time the band was still full of characters from their glory days as the Edinburgh City Police Pipe Band, such as George Lumsden, Martin Wilson Snr., John Mackintosh, Bob Montgomery to name but a few.
Many happy years were spent with the band, including competing at the highest level in Grade 1 competition. The band was also in demand both at home and abroad and some of the events Davy played at are:
Davy has travelled extensively playing in France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Australia, USA, Canada, Holland and Belgium.
